La Onda Bajita
KPFA Program : 94.1 fm
Airs : Fridays 8:00 – 10:00 PM
Lowrider soul. This long running lowrider cruising show continues to creep along with a mix of barrio oldies and Raza knowledge. Founded by Miguel Molina and a collective of students from Sonoma State at KBBF, the program relocated to KPFA in the early ’80s at the urging of then Public Affairs Director Don Foster. A community show, La Onda encourages Latino youth to steer away from destructive behavior and to instill a positive self-image through pride in our Chicano/Mexicano/Latino/Indigena heritage.
Features include: “Refleciones Del Pasado – Chicano Historical Highlights” and “El Comentario – Que Hable La Gente Cruzando Las Calles” with El Gavilan. “La Palabra” with Mr. Chuch. paz nomas.
Hosts: Miguel Molina “El Gavilan”; “La Brava”; Ventura “Mr. Chuch” Longoria; and Sandra “Giggles” Lemus.
La Onda Bajita is a bilingual, Xicano-Latino Indigenous collective. For over 30 years, we have held a strong, steadfast commitment to give voice to Spanish-speaking and native communities. We use the power of words as a tool for change in Aztlan.
La Onda Bajita broadcasts live at least once a month from the Arlene Francis Center for Spirit, Art and Politics.
