The up and coming Café Recognition will be the entrance point into the culture of the Arlene Francis Center for Spirit, Art, and Politics, and will encourage people to emerge out of their isolation behind laptops, cell phones and ipods, and into high-spirited connection with others. Along with quality coffees, teas and artisan baked goods from local bakeries, the daily menu will include ongoing seminars, presentations, videos, discussions, and music on themes relevant to the Center’s mission. Thus the Café will be more than simply a place to get a cup of coffee and disappear into one’s private space; while it will allow folks to do that if they wish, the Café will also encourage the creation of meaningful conversation that may in turn create opportunities for people to participate in the life of the Center in other ways—for example, by attending the Spiritual Activism Institute or engaging with a theatrical production or a film series or taking a writing class or a green-job training course.
